Brief description

The 'Facility for Automated Intelligent Monitoring of Marine Systems' (FAIMMS) is a facility of the Australian 'Integrated Marine Observing System' (IMOS) project. This data set was collected by the FAIMMS Great Barrier Reef Sensor Network and contains data from the following sensor deployments:

There have been 4 deployments for the Maximum Wind Speed 10 Minutes data set.

Instrumentation was deployed for measuring Maximum Wind Speed 10 Minutes from 02 Dec 2008 through to 02 Sep 2012, and the installation was located at/on Heron Island Weather Station Latitude:-23.44822 - Longitude:151.98386. Sensor deployed was a Vaisala WXT510/WXT520 Weather Transmitter manufactured by Vaisala, model WXT510. The following comment was recorded regarding this deployment - 'Heron Island Weather Station Maximum Wind over 10 minutes'.

Notes

The weather station is to provide on-reef weather conditions to allow the interaction with the atmosphere and the water to be understood. It is NOT set up as a meteorological grade station (for example it is too low to the water) but rather to give an indication of the atmospheric conditions at the surface of the water actually on the reef. If you need meteorological grade observations then use the data available for near by locations from www.bom.gov.au
